Fondest? Hmm... My whole last trip to Disneyland was a big, extended fond memory ^_^
From beginning to end the whole thing was just so astonishing... Everything just came together so well. But I suppose if I had to pick out a few highlights, the two that stick out the most are the trip around the Disneyland RailRoad on the Lilly Belle and then when my Doombuggy stopped in front of Constance.
To explain, I big ol' historical romantic... I love steam trains and the Victorian Era, or at least the romantic myth of the Victorian Era that is exploited so well in Disneyland. And for my money, the DLRR is one of the best steam train rides anywhere. When you let yourself really get into it, there's no other train ride in the world where you pass from jungles to New Orleans to the wild west to the Grand Canyon and the age of the dinosaurs. The only thing better than that is ride through it in the plush, velvet upholstered and wood panelled Lilly Belle salon car. Especially when we passed by Primeval World, since I love dinosaurs too.
As for Constance, my last trip was May 10-16, 2007... Literally a few days after Constance went live (or dead) in the Haunted Mansion attic. She was so new that there were almost no pictures of her up online, and myself and all my friends who I went with from Doombuggies.com were just dying to have our Doombuggies stop right in front of her to get some photos and a really good look. Saddly, for the entire duration of the trip it was not to be. That is, until my last ride on my last night.
I mean that literally. It was about 15 minutes to close on Monday night (and I was flying out Tuesday morning) and I decided that my next trip through the Haunted Mansion would be my last ride. So there I was, rolling along, and boom, I stop right in front of Constance.
Once the ride was over, I actually had to sit down for a minute to recover myself. It wasn't just that I had stopped in front of Constance, finally, but that it came as the crowning glory to a trip that was just so awesome already. Right up to the very last moment it was perfect.
And not only that, but I was only able to snap two more pictures before my last set of batteries died on my digital camera. Wow!
Those were the two main highlights, but there are so many more good memories... Leaning on the rail of Snow White's Grotto and hearing "perfectly wrecthed, isn't she" come from behind me, only to turn around and see the Evil Queen walk by; being pulled into the Laughing Stock Company's bachelor game show skit and being made to model for Cruella DeVille around the Main St. flagpole; watching the fireworks from right in front of the castle; being taken around to see the original pet cemetary at the side of the Mansion and being allowed to ride through it twice; eating pizza with my friend from North Carolina in our adjoining motel rooms and watching the South Park episode where the kids go to Disneyland; having a whole carload of dedicated Mansion fans erupt in cheers when we saw Randall change to the Mansion wallpaper design in the Monsters Inc. ride, and then have Rozz at the end compliment me on my hair; walking through the castle gates, riding Dumbo and the Mad Tea Cups for the first time (since I missed them on my first trip), and riding with the Monorail captain; and on and on and on...
It was such a good trip!
