Over the past week or so, the term "Hero" has been thrown around a lot. Weather we were talking about the passing of a famous Football Player or a Pop Icon, you heard it over and over in the media's description of them. One man who was posthumously described as a "Hero" was a man most people had never met or heard of but he had brought smiles and happiness to thousands. His name was Austin Wuennenberg and he was a Monorail Pilot at Walt Disney World. It's the toughest job in the parks and he loved it. Monorail Pilots are responsible for the safety of their guests and the trains they drive. It was because of this great sense of responsibility that Austin's final action were in an effort to keep his train and his guests safe. Unfortunately, it was not to be and Austin Wuennenberg was killed when Monorail Pink collided with Monorail Purple in the early morning hours of July 5th 2009. In light of the NTSB's initial report on the accident and video on the internet showing the love and passion Austin had for his job and the guests he served, it has become clear that Austin was truly an everyday hero. In an effort to honor him, the Monorail Austin Petition has been started. The goal is to convince Disney Parks to re-christen one of the Monorail trains in the WDW fleet as "Monorail Austin." In honor of a man who exemplified the core values of the Disney brand, and showed us the true meaning of the word "Hero."
